Reputed to be the oldest pub in England by The Guinness Book of Records, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks dates back to the 8th Century. With its long history Ye Olde Fighting Cocks could tell a few stories! (History). It is known by locals as ‘The Fighters’
Under new ownership since April 2012 “The Fighting Cocks” is constantly trying to improve its impressive reputation from locals and world wide tourists alike.
Passing Visitors are guaranteed a warm welcome. The friendly atmosphere augmented by a blazing log fire, excellent selection of real ales and fine wines and wholesome home cooked food.
Our menu changes on a monthly basis, keeping those all time favourites available. We have a children’s menu and high chairs available making us an ideal location for that family Sunday lunch. Private Function areas are available and we take bookings for lunch or dinner. We are also now taking bookings for Christmas functions.
A large beer garden in the rear is an excellent way to spend a sunny afternoon with views of the Roman Verulamium remains, or soak up the authentic English pub interior on those rainy winter days.
